2021 Buck Institute Timeline
The Buck is the world’s first biomedical research institution devoted solely to research on aging. Founded in 1999, the Buck now has over twenty years of pioneering biomedical achievements and breakthroughs that are improving the treatment of age-related diseases. The Buck leadership wanted to create a permanent timeline exhibit to acknowledge, celebrate and share their accomplishments both internally and with the visitors and funders that tour their beautiful hilltop facility in Marin County. Designed by the architect I.M. Pei, the building has a clean modern aesthetic that we wanted to respect while also making the timeline a striking element indicative of the challenging and imaginative work being done by the scientists within its walls. Though complex scientific research can seem cold and intimidating, we wanted to create an approachable display with which people would want to engage. Inspired by the organic nature of the research and the grasses that blow like golden waves on the Marin hillsides, I designed a display that tries to express some of that beauty, complexity, and movement.
